Student Code of Conduct
1. Our Values
At the Muslim Homeschool Community (MHSC), we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment grounded in Islamic principles. We believe that character development is an essential part of the educational journey. Our community views behavioral challenges as opportunities for growth, reflection, and strengthening our collective bond.
2. Expected Behavior
To maintain a thriving community, all students are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Treat all individuals with kindness, dignity, and respect, using thoughtful words and actions.
- Follow directions from instructors, volunteers, and organizers promptly.
- Show care for MHSC property, venue facilities, and the personal belongings of others.
- Foster inclusivity and refrain from bullying, teasing, gossip, or intentional exclusion.
- Respect physical boundaries by keeping hands, feet, and objects to oneself.
Note: Unless specified by a particular program, parents remain responsible for the supervision of their children.
3. Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered violations of our community standards and are not permitted:
- Physical aggression of any kind, including hitting, kicking, or pushing.
- Theft or intentional damage to property.
- Repeated disruption of activities following official reminders.
4. Conflict Resolution: The Restorative Process
- Families must try to resolve minor conflicts privately and respectfully.
- If a resolution is not reached, please fill out the MHSC Restorative Incident and Grievance Form.
- MHSC utilizes a restorative circle to repair trust and relationships. Temporarily Suspended
- This is a guided, mandatory conversation where participants listen without interruption to identify solutions and agree on next steps.
- The focus is on accountability and healing rather than punishment.
5. Progressive Disciplinary Steps
If disruptive behavior persists after restorative efforts, the following progressive steps may be taken:
- Step 1: Temporary Removal. The student is removed from the activity for the remainder of the session or required to stay with a parent.
- Step 2: Suspension. A temporary pause from one or more MHSC activities for a designated period.
- Step 3: Membership Review. In cases of repeated serious misconduct, the MHSC Board will determine if continued participation is appropriate.
Refusal to participate in a requested restorative circle will result in the student’s possible suspension until the meeting is completed.
6. Immediate Safety Concerns
Certain behaviors that jeopardize the immediate safety of the community may result in immediate removal from an event without prior restorative measures. These include serious physical aggression, threats of violence, or behavior that places others in imminent danger. A restorative meeting must occur and be resolved before the family may return to activities.
Our commitment is to help children develop strong Islamic character and become responsible members of our community. We thank our families for partnering with us to ensure a safe, valued, and respectful environment for all.
